Toys For Traveling With Little Kids

Traveling with little ones can be tough if you’re not prepared. However, if you bring the right toys for traveling with little kids and enough snacks, traveling with your children can be a very special and exciting adventure.

To make your travels go a bit smoother, here are my top 10 favorite travel toys/activities for toddlers/young children to take along with you.

Most are recommended for 3+ so if you are giving these to younger children, please just make sure they play with them under supervision.  See which toys for traveling with little kids we prefer:

Melissa and Doug Reusable Sticker Activity Books

They come in multiple different themes…cities, animals, food, dress up, etc… Children can create scenes with the reusable stickers and backdrop pages. Fun! And again, they’re reusable stickers so they can create new scenes over and over and over again. Great for long plane, train or car rides.

Magnetic Scribble Boards

There are many to choose from online. Get the small one so that it’s small enough to come with you wherever you go (pop it in your purse, travel bag, car storage, etc). No mess drawing. They can draw, erase, draw, erase, etc… Again, another great toy for long plane, train or car rides.

Fidget Toy

Little fingers will enjoy the popping sensation. I’ve even see some adults use them for stress relief. They’re small enough to bring everywhere and a huge plus – super easy to clean.

Fun Workbooks: Puzzle / Maze /Mad Libs / Spot The Difference Books / I Spy

A great way to keep your child entertained while also working their brains.

Melissa & Doug Water Wow

A no mess way of painting …with just water! Once the pages dry, just refill the brush with water and start again. Kids love to see what they uncover as they brush over the pages. They come in many themes too (farm, sea life, wild animals, dinosaurs, etc).

Buckle Toy

Great for learning all the ways to buckle or unbuckle. You can also teach them their colors this way. Just an overall great quiet time activity. Note: Watch those little fingers! They can get pinched.

Quiet Book

Great for individual, quiet play. Compact enough to bring along everywhere. Easy to clean (machine washable).

“Make -An-Animal” Stickers

Keeps little ones busy and everyone gets a good laugh at the end…especially if your kid is extra creative with the eyes.

Disney’s “Eye Found It” Card Game

There are hidden items in each card. Kids have to focus and race to be the first to spot what they’re looking for. This activity requires a bit more space (ex: a table) so this is great when your plane is delayed or you’re waiting for your food at a restaurant and need something fun to play while you wait.

First 100 Words Sticker Book

A great book to help your child build their language and begin word-picture association. Younger kids (ages 3-4) will need help reading the words but this can be a more independent activity for kids ages 5-6 who have already begin to read.

Don’t forget that good old fashion travel items work well too! Small books, coloring books, pencils/crayons, stickers, etc…
One tip: try to bring along items that they don’t see at home in their rooms or playroom. We keep our travel activities/toys only for travel so that they feel new and exciting each time.
