On the Alpe Di Seisi plateau near Ortisei in the Italian Dolomites, you’ll find the recently built 5 star Alpina Dolomite hotel.
A beautiful piece of architecture, engineering and design sort of asks for a great gym as well doesn’t it? Let’s see what my experience was.
The space is generous and the view is hard to beat. Located near the pool and outside play area, it’s convenient to get to or work out while your family is doing something else nearby.
Even though I was there by myself and hardly saw anyone using the gym, it’s not hard to imagine the space can serve a fair amount of occupants.

While I was visiting the hotel, the weather was stunning so everyone was hiking, climbing, biking etc. When the weather turns, I assume more guests use the facilities.

The equipment is nicely varied with plenty of cardio equipment in front of the windows. The strength training equipment is varied yet standard.
The choices are what you can expect but that’s where the variety ends. There is little functional equipment and the free weights are quite limiting.
The basics are present but I do feel like there’s an opportunity which is not being seized upon. I have my fingers crossed that the hotel expands a bit on the assortment of strength equipment or other “functional” training equipment.

PROS:
CONS:
- The size of the space.
- Beautifully finished with fresh water, towels etcetera.
- All the equipment basics are present and the equipment is modern.
- The strength training equipment should be expanded or have more variety.
- The dumbbell set should have heavier weights (trust me – it’s more likely a newbie will hurt themselves using a 10lbs weight than an experienced athlete hurting themselves with a 50lbs one).
