A Trip Through Normandy, France Part 1.

Here's a breakdown of our trip through Normandy, France in the late winter of 2022.

With our car packed, COVID restrictions allowing us to visit and the weather cooperating, we went off to Normandy: the beautiful region in Northern France.

Here is the first part of: A trip through Normandy, France.

Even though Normandy is known for many things, due to the circumstances (and proximity to our home base), we decided to keep things relatively simple.

We figured we could venture out to places such as Mont St Michel, the World War 2 beaches and so many other destinations (which you can find on our member map) another time and focused on a few quality experiences.

First stop was the beautiful port town of Honfleur.

Le Vieux Bassin, as seen above, is a very typical Norman port, which reflections of traditional houses paints a beautiful picture.

This is one of the best photo spots in Honfleur, to do preferably at nightfall when the lights reflect of the water.

Of course we also visited the carousel of Honfleur, a must if you bring kids with you (or if you’re really into carousels).

Furthermore, we visited the Saint Catherine’s Church, which is France’s largest wooden church, with a separate bell tower, covered in chestnut shingles.

It replaced the previous church in the 2nd half of the 15th century, which was destroyed during the 100 Year War.

Lastly, after a carriage ride through the town (another winner when you go with kids), we drove past the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce chapel which was built in the 17th century on the site of an old chapel that disappeared in a landslide in the cliff.

This primitive chapel was founded before the year 1023 by Richard II , then Duke of Normandy, to fulfill a vow made during a storm in which he had almost perished.  It’s a beautiful monument and down the road, you can also walk to a fantastic viewpoint of Honfleur from above.
